Wayfarers' Testimonials

Our trip with Celtic Wayfarers in 2016 was marvelous, because our hosts are wonderful people, they have deep knowledge and love of Ireland, and they have strong family and people connections to the island.  Their biographies on the website tell you a lot about them, but not enough about their personalities. Both are very warm, soft-spoken, and down to earth while being very knowledgeable and strongly engaged with major questions of the human condition. Our trip was a fascinating dialog on the important, and interesting, questions as seen through history, myths, legends, places, family, religion, philosophy, politics and poetry. Mix that in with soft rains, amazing vistas, interesting pubs, lovely visits with some of Frankie’s family, and a few amusing adventures, and you have one of the best trips of our lives. ~ Pete & Mary MacDowell, Celtic Wayfarers, 2016

I had the great pleasure to to join one of Celtic Wayfarers' wonderful guided tours. It was my first visit in this strong an beautiful country. Traveling in a small group, I experienced in a few days so different parts of Ireland. We visited old Celtic spiritual places and had time to experience its power by walking and just being between the old stones with wonderful symbols. We had the chance to spend time with friends and get to know Irish life and hospitality. The places we stayed overnight were marvelous and very special. On an old farm every room had its own character and really fun interior. I had the gift to sleep in the room of roses. What could bring a better feeling than being in a fairy tale and to enjoy in the morning a rich farmer's breakfast? We travel through the green landscape, to stormy cliffs, had rain and sunshine, and incredible rainbows like protecting shells over this world. We walked in rain and storm, happy about our Swiss mountain equipment, through the Burren, a tableland with thousand year old altars from stone, to an old sacristy hidden in the woods. And in the evenings we enjoyed Irish music, food, and, of course, a Guinness! Thank you for all! ~ Hjørdis Mair, 2016, Zürich, Switzerland.

Celtic Wayfarers offer such enchanting, memorable experience: convivial friendship, ancient and recent history & mythology, Irish (& sometimes Scottish) politics, experiments in sustainable communal living, wonderful pub life with live music and dance, as well as lovely vistas, walking & biking paths, and quiet moments of contemplation. And if you happen to meet that special person on a CW trip, as we did, Frankie can perform the wedding service! ~ Jeff Boyer & Helen Clark, 2013 Celtic Wayfarers’ sojourn through Scotland & Ireland. Married by Frankie in December, 2014!

Our excursion with Celtic Wayfarers was not our first trip to Ireland, but it was the most memorable. Frankie and Susan design and provide a visit that is both intimate and informative. The love of his native land, as well as Frankie's connections with people and places, enable visitors to experience a unique intimate journey that is far above a 'mass produced' tour. Both Susan and Frankie's delight in sharing their love of Ireland shines through, making each day warm and unforgettable. ~ Susan & Rich Boylan, Celtic Wayfarers, 2013

I grew up in Ireland and had traveled in each of the country's 32 counties by the time I was 17 and left for America. I have also had a kind of lifelong aversion to organized tours. That changed dramatically when I went with Frankie & Susan on their two week tour of Ireland. Seeing my country through their brilliance, and with the backdrop of Irish Mythology, was the experience of a lifetime that I enjoyed thoroughly. The accommodations were exceptionally good, the costs very reasonable, and my insights about Ireland were greatly enriched and enhanced. ~ Jim Killacky, Celtic Wayfarer, 2011, from Greensboro, North Carolina (and once upon a time from Bray, Co. Wicklow, Ireland)

Traveling to Ireland with Celtic Wayfarers is the trip of a lifetime. The group is small, the hosts are superb, the experience is without parallel. At Tara, we felt the very energies of the earth come through as out guide led us across sacred ground. At Glendalough, site of early monastery, we communed with the sweet earth spirits and sensed the presence of the religious community which once lived there. On the Aran Islands, we climbed to ancient stone forts, and imagined what life might have been like for those early builders. Our trip was well laid out, and, although we were not rushed, our experience was rich which gives you the feeling of touching in an intimate way the countryside and those who have lived there over the centuries. It was indeed a sacred journey, yielding memories I shall treasure for the rest of my days. I feel most fortunate to have found this tour. ~ Dorothy Walters, San Francisco, 1999 tour. [Dorothy is author Unmasking the Rose (2002), and several books of poetry, including Marrow of Flame (2000), Penelope's Loom (2012), and most recently, Some Kiss We Want (2016).]

A wonderful opportunity to experience Ireland's natural beauty, its Celtic and Christian history, and its beautiful people. Susan and Frankie and extremely knowledgeable about Ireland and its history of Celtic spirituality, as well as its political and social history. We highly recommend this tour! ~ Bob & Gail, Raleigh, 1997
